Before the pandemic hit last year in March, I had been working on a project with Larissa Wild (Fine Art Consultant www.larissawild.com) for a large scale commercial project for the foyer of Miami Towers in Florida. What I created was a three panel abstract piece, with each panel being 150cm x 120cm.. so a total size of 4.5m in length (my largest piece yet).
It being a commercial building and thoroughfare, I had to consider how to make the works more public proof. In addition to the flexible resin coat, the works where backed by insulation foam to protect the works from having holes but through them by hands, feet or furniture. A split batten hanging system was also created so the works were solidly installed to the wall.
It was a great experience to be involved, and much was learned. Including, don’t try and ship a huge commission to the other side of the world at the beginning of a pandemic ;)! Seriously, we had rotten luck getting the works to Miami. Firstly it was switched with another shipment and went to Pensilvania, returned to Sydney, then back to Melbourne, then forwarded again to the USA via Singapore and China. It’s a very well travelled painting!
