Thrive is a conglomerate of different elements that have washed ashore. Elements include golden sandstone, blue bottles, mangroves, algae, weed and corals and all that succumbs to the power of the ocean, and that alludes to another time or another world that is hidden from usual view.
I have attempted to capture the flavour of the Australian coast, in a less literal sense, in the palette chosen, in a spherical-birds-eye view of repeating waves, and shapes depicting rocky outcrops and hills. It’s a congregation of the three physical states (liquid, solid and gas) which is a direct correlation to the nature of the method in which Thrive was created: in using the viscosity of paint, gravity and evaporative measures… as if nature itself was employed in an attempt to mimic nature. Similarly, as throughout the layering process, the painting grew in some areas, and eroded in others, mimicking a thriving ecological system or coastal shoreline.
