Sazanami Sakura (Ripples, Cherry Blossom, Ephemeral) explores the delicate balance between human intervention and natural expression. The sakura bonsai, rendered with abstract elements and rippling patterns, embodies the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms while evoking a sense of nostalgia for seasonal transitions.
In this large bonsai piece, as well as in some of my newer works, I’ve been experimenting with the incorporation of design elements. If you look closely, you'll notice recurring circles and ripples—woven into the blossoms, subtly echoed in the background, pot, and moss—creating a rhythmic flow that ties the composition together.
The piece is in my new all time favourite bespoke frames masterfully crafted by Darren Wallace out of furniture grade birch ply.
