Diaphanous Blue is an abstract (mostly) piece whereby the composition of the painting and the organic elements within, were informed by the frame. The frame was made by the uber amazing craftsman Darren, who constructed this from layers of A grade birch ply. The painting itself is on a stretched canvas, and painted with acrylics, inks and some paint skins. A cave being a place of shelter and safety, and a space notorious for contemplation, I hoped to draw the viewer through the “cave” and into the void/universe. It is of the same series as Microcosmic: it is both subatomic and cosmic, highlighting nature’s universality from the micro to the macro. It references notions of psychedelia, and was lightly inspired by Michael Pollan’s book ‘How to Change your Mind’.
